Frequently Asked Questions
Can I load a scanned raster map or a USGS DRG map or a BSB chart into my GPS.
No you cannot load them in as they are. The GPS uses vector maps. The only way is to
load them into OziExplorer and use OziMC to trace the features (roads, rivers etc) which
get saved into the mapcreate data. This is a time consuming arduous task but well worth
it.
When I try to load a .map file created by Mapcreate it gives an error message.
You do not load the Mapcreate .map files at all, please read the tutorial which
explains what to do.
I need to edit a feature in a polygon which is near the edge of a map but cannot get
the polygon to be selected.
Getting to the edges of the map if a new polygon starts near the edge is a problem.
The preferred method of course is to have another map as it is difficult to edit a small
part of a polygon on 1 map and continue it on another map, remember that each polygon is a
self contained area where features cannot cross the polygon boundary.
Anyway this is a work around which may help.
When you press the Edit button to edit a polygon, OziMC gets the coordinates from
the centre of the displayed map window and uses these to calculate the polygon.
If you zoom in to the map as far as you can (up to 750% perhaps) you can get the
centre of the window closer to the edge, press the Edit button to edit the feature and
then zoom out again to do what you need to.
